How to Brush Your Teeth With Braces

Posted on 2/6/2023 by Moyer Office
How to Brush Your Teeth With BracesDentists apply braces to our teeth to straighten and align them. These dental appliances improve your smile, improve speech, and keep your mouth healthy, therefore, wearing them is totally worth the effort.

However, if you don't follow effective brushing techniques, your teeth will form cavities and slow, but surely, infect your gum tissue. If you wear braces, we're about to teach you how to maintain your teeth and keep your oral health in good shape.

Choose the Right Toothbrush

Even though a regular toothbrush should work just fine, you should consider using a sonic or electric toothbrush that is especially designed to clean around your braces. If you choose either of the two alternatives, you should know that the bristles of your brush will wear out much faster than you would expect because of your braces.

Brush Over and Below Your Braces

While brushing on the front of your teeth, rub your toothbrush across your teeth and make sure to reach all the way back on your molars, over and below your braces. Try to spend about 25 to 30 seconds brushing each bracket.

Don't Forget the Inner Side of Your Teeth

Next, move your toothbrush up and down, back and forth and in circular motions on the inner side of your teeth. This part shouldn't be that difficult because your braces don't obstruct your toothbrush here.

Brush Your Crowns

Lastly, you should hold your toothbrush perpendicular to the gap between your teeth and move your hand back and forth in a circular motion. In doing so, you can reach all the crevices that harbor food particles and plaque.

Now check your teeth. Do they look clean? We're sure they do!
