How to Tell if You Clench in Your Sleep

Clenching David R. Moyer, DDS AZ 85028-3097
Clenching your teeth is a serious problem. It can cause a significant amount of damage. However, most people do it in their sleep and are unaware of the problem. It can be difficult to notice that you are doing it if you aren't sure of what to be on the lookout for.

Typically, people who clench their teeth, wake up with sore teeth or jaws in the morning. Plus, after time, notice cracks forming in their teeth that they cannot otherwise explain. Is this happening to you?

Talk to Your Dentist if You Notice These Signs

If you notice that your teeth are sore each morning or that your teeth are increasingly becoming more sensitive, you need to go in and speak with your dentist. They will help you figure out the cause of the pain, then you two can discuss a treatment for whatever the problem is. This way, hopefully you can treat the problem before it does more permanent damage to your teeth.

Clenching your teeth is often accompanied by grinding your teeth. This can wear down the enamel of your teeth, and leave you facing a lot of pain. When you clench and/or grind your teeth, it can leave you facing consequences that you may have to treat for years to come.

Instead, your dentist can help treat the problem, stopping your problems from getting any worse. It just takes them being informed of any issues you may notice, as early as you notice them.

If your teeth are in poor enough condition to where your dentist picks up on it before you, then you are probably going to need some restorative procedures done to your teeth. Talk to your dentist at the earliest sign of a problem. Let them help you keep your teeth in tip-top shape.
