What Your Bad Breath Might Be Telling You

Posted on 6/15/2019 by Moyer Office
What Your Bad Breath Might Be Telling YouBad breath can be embarrassing and inconvenient, to say the least. In fact, the fear of bad breath drives huge amounts of consumer dollars into products such as mouthwash, chewing gum, breath mints, and more every year.

However, having bad breath can be more than a minor inconvenience. The fact of the matter is that bad breath can be a sign that you need to seek out immediate dental treatment.

Bad Breath and Your Gum Tissue

If you suffer from chronic bad breath, one thing that may be causing it is gum disease. Gum disease is particularly hazardous because your gum tissue usually does not hurt, so you may suffer from it for quite some time without even knowing it.

Of course, not all bad breath comes from gum disease, but if you have chronic bad breath, you may want to consider asking about it during your next dental checkup. If you do have gum disease, it is highly treatable, so the sooner you become aware of it, the better off you will be.

Bad Breath and Your Teeth

Even if you do not have gum disease, you should not think that your bad breath is just a harmless inconvenience. Chronic bad breath could be a sign that you have a tooth which is infected or even dying. Other potential issues could be an impacted tooth, a tooth with advanced decay, or other problems.

Regardless of whether you feel any discomfort or not, if you suffer from chronic bad breath, you should come see us right away. Let us take a look at your mouth and rule out any serious causes. It is entirely possible that you simply need to increase the flow of saliva in your mouth, but it is better to know for sure. So make an appointment and let us help you with your bad breath.
