Is Caring for Dental Implants Any Different Than Original Teeth?

Is Caring for Dental Implants Any Different Than Original Teeth?A few decades ago, your only option if you lost a tooth was to get a fixed bridge or a removable denture. The troubles associated with maintaining them and the discomfort they can sometimes come with are a lot.

Fortunately, however, we now have dental implants, which are much easier to maintain and much closer to the original thing.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is an artificial root that is placed in your mouth, where it is fused to the jaw, so that it can support a denture, a bridge, or a crown. The dental implant itself is made of titanium metal.

To determine if a dental implant is right for you, we recommend you come into our office for a dental exam so that we can determine whether it is right for you or not. In case you find out it is, you don't have to worry about taking care of it. It's hardly distinguishable from the real thing.

They Look Natural
To start with dental implants look and feel natural, just like the real thing. They are designed to be almost indistinguishable from your real teeth. The crown that is added to the dental implant is also designed so that it looks like the rest of your teeth, making it easier to smile in public.

They are easy to Eat with and Maintain
Dental implants allow you to enjoy your meals without having to worry about your teeth sliding, which is what happens when you have removable dentures. You also don't suffer from increased tooth sensitivity and can apply the same bite force as someone with normal teeth.

Since they are indistinguishable from normal teeth, they are also pretty easy to maintain, and can be subjected to the same brushing and flossing that the rest of your teeth can.

Dental implants are certainly a boon to many people who have lost a tooth, and they might just be the right thing for you too. In case you feel you might need one, do not hesitate to visit our offices for a consultation and an exam.
