How Long Should I Expect My Dental Bonding to Last?

Posted on 4/20/2020 by Moyer Office
How Long Should I Expect My Dental Bonding to Last? You have just received dental bonding to improve the looks of your smile. If so, you may wonder how long your new smile will last? Will it look as good in the future as it does today? You can expect the bonding to last about 10 years, provided you follow good oral health habits. The following information will give you more information on maintaining your bonded teeth, so they continue to support your appearance for a longer time.

When Should Bonding Be Considered?

If you choose to bond your teeth, you are selecting a restoration that is both aesthetic and functional. Bonding should be considered if you need to fill cavities with a composite bonding resin, or you need to repair cracks or chips. You can also use bonding to enhance the appearance of discolored teeth or to fill in gaps between teeth. Bonding materials can also recontour teeth or shield a part of a tooth's root due to recession. Bonding entails roughening the surface of a tooth and applying a conditioning liquid. Both procedures help the bonding material adhere to surface. A laser or intense light is used to harden the resin. It takes from 30 to 60 minutes to bond a tooth.

How Do You Take Care of the Bonded Teeth?

You should take care of your bonded teeth as you do your natural teeth. Brush at least twice a day and floss at least twice a day. Brush your teeth, preferably, once in the morning and before you go to bed at night. You should also brush after your drink coffee or tooth-staining foods, such as tomato sauce or blueberries. The more conscientious you are about brushing and flossing, the better your teeth will look. Would you like to know more about bonding? If so, we can answer all your questions today.
