Different Types of Dentures

Posted on 3/21/2022 by Moyer Office
Different Types of DenturesImplant dentistry (also known as dentures) is the most effective long-term remedy for tooth loss. Dentures are removable dental prostheses that can function as a whole or partial set of teeth replacement equipment in one or more sections of your mouth. The three most common reasons people may need dentures are decay, gum disease, and injuries. If you have had tooth decay for years, your teeth could have rotted and fallen out as a result. If gum disease is left untreated, it can result in tooth loss, making dentures the best and sometimes the only option for smile restoration. A facial injury can cause multiple teeth to become damaged or fall out. Dentures can easily and quickly restore your smile.

The Different Types of Dentures Available

There are several different denture types, including full, partial, custom, immediate, implant-supported, snap-in, upper, economy, and overdentures. Full dentures contain a flesh-colored acrylic foundation that covers the gums and roof of the mouth, allowing an entire set of fake teeth to settle firmly. Partial dentures cover the gap when only a few teeth are missing. Custom dentures are created using higher-priced teeth, resulting in a more natural-looking smile. Immediate dentures are often installed the same day the teeth are extracted/removed. Implant-supported dentures give a sturdy foundation, which helps the denture stay in place securely. Snap-in dentures are highly sturdy and are utilized when a patient lacks teeth but has enough bone density to sustain an implant. Upper dentures are simply dentures for the upper teeth if you lack teeth in your upper jaw. Economy dentures are the most affordable type since they are generic in nature. They typically do not fit securely or adequately in the mouth and appear unnatural. Overdentures have titanium posts (implants) put into the jaw, where bone heals around them. An overdenture is a removable denture that rests on top of the gums and is kept in place by dental implants. Depending on the patient's demands, it can be put on either the upper or lower jaw. The overdenture can also be removed.
