Are X-Rays Really Necessary Every Year?

Posted on 2/7/2022 by Moyer Office
Are X-Rays Really Necessary Every Year?Dental x-ray procedures are always essential as they help detect oral issues that cannot be easily seen with the naked eyes. The dentist may consider performing an x-ray procedure when you go for your regular visits. Although some people think that x-rays are dangerous, it is not always performed every time you go to the dentist. Besides, a very minimal amount of rays gets into your body because the dentist will cover your body with the lead material. Therefore, there is nothing to be worried about because x-rays are no longer dangerous as they used to be back then.

Why Is It Necessary to Go for Dental X-rays?

As mentioned above, dental x-rays can help detect oral issues that cannot be seen easily. Apart from that, it allows your dentist to prevent problems that may be developing. For example, if you are at risk of getting gum disease, your dentist will be able to see that early in advance and implement measures to stop the gum infection before it worsens. In short, x-rays help improve your oral health because you can get the best treatments before any oral condition advances to the late stages. However, there are some factors that your dentist will have to consider before performing dental x-rays. These factors include age, history of oral issues, or gum diseases. These factors will help your dentist know how frequently you should get dental x-rays.

How Often Should I Get Dental X-rays?

Dental x-rays are normally performed after every 2 to 3 years. This is because your body is not supposed to be exposed to too much rays as it can expose you to the risk of developing cancer. However, your dentist will always check your dental condition and advise how often you should be coming for dental x-rays.

We welcome you to our dental clinic for an x-ray procedure. Our experts will let you know if you have any oral issues and provide you with the best treatment options.
