How Does Invisalign for Teens Work?
At David R. Moyer, DDS, Invisalign Teen is a system of aligners that is made specifically for your teen's teeth and gums. Unlike traditional metal brackets that shift teeth with the use of metal wires, brackets, and bands, Invisalign uses only plastic aligners.
The procedure starts by using an iTero scanner to create a 3D model of your teen's mouth. Dr. Moyer and will then decide where each individual tooth in your teen's mouth will move into place on a computerized model. One major benefit of this technology is that teens and their parents can see for themselves how their teen's smile will look like after the treatment is completed.
A set of clear aligners will be created from the 3D model and the teenager will have to wear them every day for at least 22 hours. The teen will wear a pair of aligners for one to two weeks and then replace them with the next ones in the series. The aligners will place pressure on your teeth in much the same way as braces to move them into a better aligned position.
Invisalign aligners can be pulled out of the mouth when you are having your meals or cleaning your teeth. During treatment, it is more important than ever your teen exercises good oral hygiene habits, including brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and using antibacterial mouth rinses to ensure plaque does not accumulate in your teen's mouth and cause dental caries or periodontal disease. Depending on the severity of your misalignment, Invisalign treatment may be finished anywhere from 10 weeks to 24 months.

What Happens If Your Teen Loses an Aligner
Since Invisalign aligners are clear, they can be very difficult to spot. If your teen removed their aligners during lunch time and accidentally threw them away or misplaced them, you can contact Dr. Moyer and to let us know the aligners have been lost. Depending on how many days were left before your teen needed to switch to the next aligner pair in the series, we can simply move in on to the next set.
Are There Any Diet Restrictions During Invisalign Treatment?
If you are undergoing traditional braces treatment, you will be cautioned to eat food that is hard, tough or sticky as that can break the wires or dislodge the brackets. However, with Invisalign treatment, there is no such cause for concern. Since Invisalign aligners are removable, you can simply take them out of your mouth by gently pulling them off your molars and working your way to the front of the teeth. You can then eat all the food that you enjoy without worrying about damaging the aligners.
