A major component in the quality of your smile is the appearance of your teeth. Any flaws in your teeth, no matter how minor they might seem, can have a significant impact on your smile. When your smile is less than perfect, your confidence can plummet. At David R. Moyer, DDS in Paradise Valley, we can improve the appearance of your teeth, and the quality of your smile, with Lumineers.

What are Lumineers?

There are some minor flaws that can affect the appearance of your teeth, such as small chips and cracks in the enamel, gaps between your teeth, misshapen or small teeth, and discoloration. While small, they can have a significant impact on the quality of your smile, and your confidence. Lumineers are a cosmetic restoration that is used to correct the appearance of teeth affected by minor imperfections. They are extremely thin, shell-like restorations made out of porcelain that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. Porcelain matches the exact color of your real teeth and reflects light just like your natural enamel.

Are Lumineers and Veneers the Same?

Lumineers are very similar to veneers. Both are thin, shell-like restorations that are used to improve the appearance of teeth affected by minor flaws. They are designed to be bonded to the front surfaces of the affected teeth and look completely natural. Even though they are fairly similar, they also have a few key differences as well.

One of the biggest differences between Lumineers and veneers is how they are placed. To place veneers, a thin layer of tooth enamel needs to be removed. This enables the veneers to be placed so that they fit in perfectly with the rest of your natural teeth. Without removing enamel, veneers can appear, and feel, very bulky. If your veneers need to be replaced, more enamel needs to be removed.

Lumineers, on the other hand, are much thinner than veneers, measuring about half as thick. Because they are so much thinner, there is no need to remove any enamel from your teeth. If your Lumineers need to be replaced, the process for doing so is much simpler.

The Benefits of Lumineers in Paradise Valley

There are many benefits associated with Lumineers. These benefits include:
•  Improving the quality of your smile. Lumineers can eliminate minor flaws in your teeth, completely transforming your smile.
•  Boosting your confidence.
•  No need to remove any enamel from your teeth. The procedure is completely non-invasive.
•  No needles. Because your teeth do not need to be prepared, there is no need for a local anesthetic.
•  Faster treatment. Placing Lumineers is a much quicker procedure than the process for placing veneers.
•  Strong. Lumineers are strong and can withstand most normal daily wear and tear. They have a similar lifespan to regular veneers, about 15 to 20 years.
•  Reversible. If you are unhappy with the results of your Lumineers, the treatment can be reversed.

With Lumineers, we can eliminate a variety of minor dental flaws, greatly improving the quality of your smile and boosting your confidence. Call David R. Moyer, DDS at 480.935.6295 today for more information and to find out if Lumineers are the right solution for you.
