Dental Sedation & Anxiety
At David R. Moyer, DDS, we understand that not everyone is a big fan of dental work, and some people have extreme anxiety due to a trip to the dentist. We understand that some of our patients are made quite nervous when they enter dental offices, and we will do everything in our power to make your trip to our office enjoyable and anxiety free.
We are proud to offer dental sedation to put our patients at ease during their procedure and make their stay here at David R. Moyer, DDS more enjoyable.
What is dental sedation?
Sedation is the application of sedative drugs to the patient to help them achieve a state of extreme relaxation and calm. Sedative drugs can include tranquilizers, anti-anxiety medication, depressants, or nitrous oxide, and they can be administered to the patients in a variety of ways. Sedatives can be administered via a pill (orally), gas (facemask), or IV (Intravenously). At David R. Moyer, DDS, we are trained professionals and highly skilled in the application of sedation to dental patients.
Who needs dental sedation?
According to some recent studies, a large portion of the population avoids the dentist office due to fear. Dental maladies are not like colds; they don't go away with time and rest. By avoiding regular dental examinations and procedures, the oral health of the patient will likely decline. Anyone who avoids regular dental visits or procedures can benefit from sedation. Don't allow the health of your mouth to decline. Instead, talk to us about sedation options.
How should I prepare for dental sedation?
It is best to bring a friend or family member with you to your appointment if you will be receiving sedation. Some drugs wear off easily, and some don't, but no drug affects everyone the same way. Some people can sober-up quickly following a drug like nitrous oxide, whereas others experience some lingering effects. For this reason, we always ask that you bring a friend or family member to any appointment where you will be receiving sedation. They will be able to drive you home safely and make sure that you are comfortable.
